This 145-page book contains the legacy of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Texas from 1903 through the next eleven decades.
The book is an act of love compiled and produced in grateful memory of all deceased and living past state regents and chaplains of the Texas. It honors every living and deceased woman who said "yes" to the invitation of loving others through her membership in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas® local courts across the great state of Texas.
The preservation of history and traditions in the Texas Centennial Diamond Anniversary Issue highlight the dreams, hopes, struggles, and blessings from the beginning to the present of the Texas Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Because of the acts of love by the members in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Texas, God has manifested Himself in many ways along the journey. The beacon of light that guided thirty-four (34) charter members in forming Court Maria Galante #115 in Austin, the mother court of Texas, on November 28, 1909 and the twelve (12) local courts who were the basis of the Texas State Court on January 25, 1917, is the same light that illuminates the pathways of over 16,700 Texas Catholic Daughters of the Americas in 2017 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Texas State Court.
The time and attention the past state regents, Catholic Daughters of the Americas local court members, and the families of Catholic Daughters of the Americas have contributed to the successful compilation of the historical photos and quotes for this book.
A deep gratitude is extended to Eve Trevino, Texas State Regent, during the compilation of the historical data, for the opportunity and privilege that provided Texas Catholic Daughters of the Americas with a legacy document. This document displays the rich heritage of the past, while keeping the memory of women who made the Order a valued ministry through laughter and sadness as the century came to an end.
The success of the Texas State Catholic Daughters of the Americas is not about how far to spread wings, it is about how deep the love of these women can penetrate into the darkness and trials of today's changing tide. Catholic Daughters of the Americas have responded a calling: to never let society limit the vision or redefine the mission of the Order.
Texas has led the way in the past, the present, and will continue to do so in the future. Just as the women of 1909 saw no obstacles that were too large to surmount, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas of today will turn the corner, embrace the call, and pursue opportunities with the Holy Spirit guiding each step.
May the light of Christ continue to shine brightly in Texas for another 100 years.
