2011 State Organizational Workshop

Record Attendance at the 2011 State Organizational Workshop

Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) State Regent Carolyn Malik, Shiner, held the Texas State Organizational Workshop for District Deputies, State Chairmen, and Past State Regents at Holy Name Passionist Retreat Center, Houston. Three more districts were organized bringing Texas to (61) sixty one districts with 228 courts.

Peggy Rosales, First Vice State Regent, Austin, served as chairman of the workshop. Other state officers participating were Eve Trevino, Second Vice State Regent, Corpus Christi; Rosie Stockwell, State Secretary, Edinburg; Melodie Brunt, State Treasurer, Texarkana; Reverend Donald Ruppert, State Clergy Consultant, East Bernard.

The workshop was designed to ensure that District Deputies and State Chairmen are well prepared to undertake the duties and responsibilities of their respective offices. Reverend Ruppert, prayed, "Under the mantle of Mary your mother, we gathered to plan our Order's program for the next two years. Guide our decisions. Let us be an example for all Christian women. May the positive results of our prayer and good deeds bring church leaders to welcome us and recognize the benefit we are, and can be, to the universal church and every local parish."

The weekend included various presentations, training sessions, and the state organizational notebooks were distributed. Past State Regents met to reviewed job descriptions for District Deputies and State Chairmen. Seventeen years of service are represented in the PSR Hands of Service photo. Past State Regents (PSR) in attendance were Cecina Koeijmans, Dallas; Amy Rueda, El Paso; Libby Ramirez, Immediate Past National Regent, Victoria; Duchess Collins, Past National Director, Sugar Land; Dee Scheetz, Austin; Olga Samaniego, National Director, El Paso; Carolyn Bachmann, Scotland; and Immediate Past State Regent, Sheila Martinka, Houston.

Malik presented the National awards she accepted at the National Workshop in Bellville, Illinois. Malik introduced the first Kick-off celebration for the 95th Anniversary of the Texas State Court being organized for January 2012 for the Brownsville and Corpus Christi Dioceses. Malik encouraged each district to organize multi-district celebrations and fill her calendar! The newly trained leaders left enthused and ready to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
