An 'attitude of gratitude' filled the hallways and rooms of the Westin La Cantera Hill Country Resort, San Antonio, as delegates, clergy and guests registered for the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) 48th Biennial State Convention, April 4 through April 7, 2013.

Sounds of joy came from the busy workers and from the hopeful anticipation of the delegates and guests surrounding the silent auction items and the Lucky Lotto tables. CDA members gathered around hats, shirts, and a large variety of CDA merchandise; all were eager to proudly boast the brilliant purple and yellow color of our order.

At the biennial State Board VIP Luncheon, State Regent Carolyn Malik, Shiner, expressed her sincere appreciation to state officers, district deputies, state chairmen, clergy, Second Vice National Regent Olga Samaniego, convention chairman Rose Patek, convention vice-chairman Mary Rose Barta.

Following an excellent meal, state officers took control of the program with various presentations and gifts of appreciation for Regent Malik including a much desired Fishers of Women A.C.T.S. bracelet, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary statues. The viewing of four hilarious video clips brought roars of laughter that filled the room as everyone reminisced on the amazing accomplishments of the 2011-2013 term.

Most Reverend Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, San Antonio, celebrant for the Opening Mass, shared a personal welcome saying, "This is a very humbling moment for me as I see so many faces of daughters gathering here to celebrate their love of our Lord."

And for CDA members and guests, pride in being Catholic filled our hearts at the sight of thirteen (13) priests and two Bishops surrounding the altar for the Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist.

In his homily, Bishop Garcia-Siller said, "His dance on the turbulent waters of our ordinary lives is expressed by His extraordinary presence in the ordinary. He has awakened the joy of faith in your hearts. 'Faith' has healed you. Catholic Daughters of the Americas, it is though your faith, and by your varied acts of charity, that the troubled hearts of the wounded are led to Christ, and are healed. Women of faith, Jesus needs you. Women of faith, the Church needs you. Let us walk, build, and profess our faith together."

In a personal observation of Bishop Siller as he spoke to the congregation, State Public Relations chairman Terrie Vacek said, "The glow on his face was a true reflection of Christ, and a vision of one being deeply in love with the Word of God."
