JCDA Spiritual Retreat – "Responding to His Call"
June 26, 2010

The family ranch of JCDA State Chaplain Reverend John Peters is nestled down a winding country road on Weimar farmland. It offers the perfect setting for our youth to rest in the presence of Christ and allow the love of Jesus to fill their hearts with peace, hope, joy and opportunities. State Spiritual Enhancement chair Olga Samaniego, El Paso captured the attention of JCDA members and court advisors with her inspiring talk on 'Responding to His Call'.

The spiritual retreat was hosted by Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas state chairman Terri Beltran, Chaplain Fr. John Peters and the JCDA state officers; Maya Cuellar, State President; Kimberly Kallies, State 1st Vice-President; Sarah Proske, State 2nd-Vice President; Valerie Barrera, State Secretary; Felicia Garcia, State Reporter.

JCDA Courts Attending were: Sacred Heart #797, Hallettsville; St. Bernadette #1108, East Bernard; Pope Pius XII #1805, Lubbock; Ancillae Marie #1886, Crosby; Annunciation #1962, La Grange; Our Lady of The Snows #2100, Dallas; Immaculate Mary #2134, Angleton; St. Theresa of Lisieux #2211, Sugarland; Our Lady of the Hills #2415, Round Rock; San Roberto Bellarmine #2275, El Campo; Our Lady of St. Hyacinth #2361, Deer Park; Mary Queen of Peace #2497, Floresville.

Color and creativity could be seen everywhere as the girls arrived at 9:00 a.m. wearing t-shirts that they designed for their courts. The day began in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. The girls broke out into small pods for open discussions on the various questions they were provided. Fr. John was the celebrant for the Mass held under the pavilion.

Following a wonderful BBQ lunch, the girls created some amazing crafts as reminders of their retreat experience. The retreat was beautiful from beginning to the end; a day celebrating and rejoicing in God’s Love and truly responding to His call.

Beltran said, "We have rested in Jesus' love and have filled ourselves with His Word and His energy. Now we are ready to start visiting new prospective courts!"
